Disability access

Mobility parking

A limited number of mobility parking spaces are located on Victoria Street, just past Grantham Street, for access to the main entrance of the museum. There is one mobility park in the trades entrance car park accessed off Grantham Street behind the Museum. We advise phoning ahead to arrange access to the mobility car park at the museum Trades Entrance off Grantham Street. Please phone 07 838 6606 to book this park and arrange an escort into the museum.

Wheelchair access

External wheelchair ramps are available to the main entrance, and we have internal ramps from the foyer level, through all of the galleries. Wheelchairs are available for use in the museum.

Elevators / Lifts

The museum has two lifts which give access to all floors.

Accessible toilets

A full suite of toilets including disability and baby changing facilities are available on the foyer level beside the Trust Waikato Gallery, and in Exscite.

There is a single unisex toilet off the lobby just outside the Lecture Theatre, and a unisex disability toilet is available off Gallery 10 (The Barry Hopkins Gallery).

ArtsPost access

There is an external ramp for access into ArtsPost and the galleries and the shop are designed to support wheelchair access. There is also a wheelchair accessible toilet.

Service Dogs are welcome

As a visitor you are allowed to bring a Service Dog only if it has been trained to do work or perform tasks to assist you with a disability. Your companion is your responsibility during the visit and must remain under control at all times and must be kept on a leash or in a harness. Please let our Visitor Hosts know about your Service Dog as you enter the Museum.

If you are planning to visit, or have any further questions, please call 07 838 6606.
