Art Smart - school holidays April 2022

20 - 29 April 2022

Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

9am-2.30pm

Ages 7-13 years

$40 per day

These art classes will expand your child’s knowledge of modern and contemporary art and introduce them to new materials and techniques. Each day we will be inspired by an artist’s work or museum object to produce our own original pieces to take home.

To the Moon and Back

Wednesday 20 April 9am - 2.30pm

We're lifting off with Our Moon: Then, Now & Beyond! Explore the Moon from scientific, cultural, and artistic perspectives and take home a beautiful Moon-inspired 3D artwork.

Scrimshaw Carving

Thursday 21 April 9am - 2.30pm

Investigate the mysterious history of scrimshaw, images carved onto bones and eggs by sailors, and create your own works inspired by the sea and our exhibition Scrimshaw: scratching the surface.

Whaanau Portraits

Friday 22 April 9am - 2.30pm

Inspired by the works of the Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award exhibition this class will be all about tuupuna (ancestors). Tell your unique whaanau story and learn about the art of portraiture.

Moon Base Marama

Wednesday 27 April 9am - 2.30pm

Dust off your architecture skills to construct a mini moon base and explore what living on the Moon could be like.

Moonlight Stories

Thursday 28 April 9am - 2.30pm

Tell a tale by the light of the moon. In this class we will create our own shadow puppets based on stories of te marama, the Moon, from around the world. Watch as your characters come to life!

Get to know the work of one of the Waikato’s best-known artists, Margot Philips, and create a whimsical collage of your own design.
