Tim Walker: Remembering my friend Margot
16 September 2023
1pm to 2pm
Free - booking recommended
Tim Walker, renowned curator and champion of the arts, first met Margot Philips in 1986 when as a curator at Waikato Museum, he was developing a small exhibition of her work.
“I was really just seeking information and quotes to accompany each painting. In the end she agreed,” he says. “Quite quickly a beautiful friendship developed – between an elderly artist who had by then stopped painting, and a young curator at the beginning of his career.”
The recordings of these conversations eventually became the book Margot Philips – Her Own World which accompanied the exhibition of the same name at Waikato Museum in 1987 - 1988.
In this public talk, Walker will reflect on Philips’ life and personal journey, as well as the current exhibition of her work, Of This Place: Margot Philips’ Landscapes.
