Distant Kinship / Verre Verwanten NL / NZ - An exhibition of printmakers of Grafiekgroep Bergen and the Print Council Aotearoa New Zealand

6 March - 2 May 2021

Free entry

The Dutch diaspora in Aotearoa New Zealand goes back a few hundred years since the 17th century explorer and merchant, Abel Tasman (b. 1603 d. 1659) made landfall at the top of Te Wai Pounamu – the South Island. Since then, the artistic traditions of the Netherlands have made an impression on New Zealand art history.

Distant Kinship / Verre Verwanten is an exchange between the Grafiekgroep Bergen (GGB), a collective of nine Dutch printmakers, and nine printmakers belonging to the Print Council Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ). This exhibition acknowledges this distant connection and celebrates the strength of the printmaking traditions of both countries.

Education programmes are available for this exhibition.
