Puhoro ō mua, Puhoro ki tua – 9th International Indigenous Artists Gathering

23 November 2019 - 23 February 2020

Puhoro ō mua, Puhoro ki tua showcases over 100 indigenous artists from across the globe including Aotearoa New Zealand. It celebrates the diversity of contemporary indigenous art while highlighting the legacy of tradition present within contemporary practice.

It is presented in tandem with the 9th International Indigenous Artists Gathering which was held at Tuurangawaewae Marae, Ngaaruawaahia, in November.

Puhoro ō mua, Puhoro ki tua, the name of this Gathering and this exhibition, refers to the puhoro koowhaiwhai pattern that denotes speed, strength and dexterity. Like the currents of our Waikato river, the puhoro flows with creative energy.

Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga o Waikato has partnered with Te Ātinga, the Maaori Visual Arts Committee of Toi Māori Aotearoa, to offer this exciting exhibition. It is sure to be a summer highlight for Kirikiriroa Hamilton and Aotearoa New Zealand.
