The act of bequeathing is often linked to someone’s last will and testament – or to a time of growing older and moving to a smaller home - and involves the leaving behind of something to someone. Objects of cultural, historical and artistic significance amassed over a lifetime are given a new home.
The Waikato Bequests Trust, in partnership with Waikato Museum, act as an alternative to selling these much-loved taonga (treasures) so that they can continue to bring delight to others for generations to come. All the taonga in this exhibition have been bequeathed or purchased using bequestors’ financial donations to the Waikato Bequests Trust, by generous local citizens, philanthropists, collectors and artists.
Education programmes are available for this exhibition.
