The New Wave - Hamilton's Migrant Community
10 September - 19 October 2016
Free entry
Hamilton is a fast growing and increasingly diverse city with citizens from about 160 different ethnic communities. Each year the city welcomes more than 1500 new citizens at special ceremonies held every month.
The New Wave exhibition reflects on Hamilton's rich diversity by telling the stories of some migrants and refugees. The exhibition uses a book, photographs, a website, "talking heads" and an interactive data table to highlight the depth of the 10 per cent of Hamilton people who hail from somewhere outside this country. The exhibition is the work of tutors and students at Wintec's School of Media Arts in association with the Waikato Migrant Resource Centre.
