This joint exhibition unites two emerging female artists from Kirikiriroa. Their contrasting paintings invoke dialogue. The artists explore contemporary portraiture and figuration, conceptualising female embodiment.
Katherine Whitaker
Katherine Whitaker is intrigued by modern day female expression and the variety of imagery that is portrayed by the woman in her life. Exploring the liberties of female expression and multifaceted personalities has led her to create a series of paintings that examine the diverse positions women hold in society, their portrayal online and in person. Katherine aims to represent the diversity of women’s visual expression.
Claire Flannery
Claire paints figurative paintings in oil and acrylic. Her paintings draw on portraiture, gesture and immersive landscapes. The paintings explore psychological space, form and atmosphere. Intersecting colour and weaving abstraction her paintings take inspiration from layering contemporary culture and the natural landscape of Aotearoa. Through a merging of observation and imagination, her paintings explore self, place and time
