Saturday Sonatas

Visit the museum as a prelude to your weekend. Enjoy the sonorous sounds and melodic movements of a violin and piano concert performance. The repertoire in this concert includes sonata movements of Mozart, Janacek and Schubert, Caravan by New Zealand composer Jack Body, as well as a violin showpiece by Saint-Saens.

Violinist Harris Leung is a recent graduate of the University of Waikato and is a semifinalist in the upcoming National String Competition. He has played in numerous orchestras throughout the North Island and was an Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Fellow in 2019. Any remaining time he spends daydreaming about buildings. Harris is currently studying under Lara Hall at the University of Waikato and is supervised by Jeroen Schillewaert at the University of Auckland.

After completing a Master's Degree in Piano Performance with First Class Honours, Jonathan Dunlop is now a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Waikato, studying Expressive Pedalling Techniques in Late Classical and Early Romantic Piano Performance with Katherine Austin. To compliment his studies in this field, he plays a wide variety of historic keyboards (harpsichord, clavichord, organ and fortepiano), and is in demand as a harpsichord continuo player in ensembles around Auckland and Waikato. Jonathan he holds an ATCL Diploma in Singing and has appeared as a baritone soloist with several ensembles in Auckland. He also holds an LTCL Diploma in Cello Performance and is an experienced choral conductor.
