Unease: Favourites of Barry Hopkins (b. 1942 d. 2017)

23 November 2018 - 13 January 2019

Free entry

Barry Hopkins and I enjoyed a similar sense of humour. He was one of Waikato’s greatest art philanthropists and a friend to all the staff of Waikato Museum. Sadly, he passed away in December of 2017. The exhibition concept and title, Unease, originates from Barry’s own imagination. He told me a few years ago that this is the title of an exhibition he wanted me to curate. So here it is.  All the works I selected come from my 14 years of working with Barry and his collection. They represent his decades of collecting art and a glimpse into his world. This exhibition has been curated to honour his memory and to continue his legacy – we expect you will see a clear picture of what made him chortle with glee. – Leafa Wilson, Curator.

Education programmes are available for this exhibition.
