April School Holiday Programme - Waikato Museum, Hamilton

Supervised programmes for ages 7-13 years
8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday (except ANZAC Day)
$45 per day

Have fun at the Museum these school holidays. Leave the children with us to enjoy supervised, tutored programmes.

The Eureka Story

Monday 16 April
Find out why Archimedes leapt from his bath shouting this word. Conduct experiments to test the principle of density and make your own crown.

Mathematical Art

Tuesday 17 April
Combine your maths and art skills! Explore and use geometry and measurement to create artworks with a mathematical twist.

Body Talk

Wednesday 18 April
Explore the human figure as a story-teller. Learn some drawing tricks and unite them with storytelling tips to create an action comic.

All time Slime Day 

Thursday 19 April
Get ready to get messy with all sorts of slime, trial different recipes and explore this irresistible tactile matter in depth. Make your own ‘slime box’ to store your creations.

Tiny Future Islands

Friday 20 April
Can you imagine Aotearoa New Zealand in the future? What might our own tiny landscapes and buildings look like? Join multimedia artist Leafa Wilson in creating your own tiny land with its own architecture.

Big Ships and Mirrors

Monday 23 April
Build your own ship and see if it floats. Are you a mythbuster – on a small scale we will replicate the ships and mirrors experiment.

Remembering the ANZACs

Tuesday 24 April
Create ANZAC-inspired art and craft and learn stories and facts about WW1.

Myths and Legends

Thursday 26 April
What happens when Maui meets Hercules? Explore the legends and recreate the stories of two demigods. Paint the imaginary scenes in Greek vase style.

Gumboot Art

Friday 27 April
Farewell Milk Matters as our science galleries are mooooving on to host a new exciting exhibition. Bring along your old gumboots for a makeover and take home an amazing piece of farm-style art.

If booking for multiple children for more than one programme: Enter each of their details for the first programme they are attending, then use the drop-down box labelled 'Copy data from' to save re-entering the information.

 

 

Terms and Conditions

Programmes must be booked and paid for online by 10pm the day prior to selected programme. Bookings are not confirmed until payment is received.

Registrations must be completed by a parent or guardian of the child enrolled over the age of 18 years old.

For health and safety reasons, children must be aged 7-13 to attend. Please do not be offended if we ask for proof of age of your child/children. 

Enrolment

You must book and supply complete enrolment details for each child. A copy of this will be emailed to you.

Cancellation

Once accepted registrations are final. If your child/children cannot attend a booked programme, we require 24 hours' notice of cancellation to issue a refund. Email us to notify.

Unless required by law, transfers or refunds (partial or full) are not issued except in extenuating circumstances and at the sole discretion of Waikato Museum.

Programme supervision

The everyday programme ratio is one teacher to 10 children. Depending on the activity, some programmes require more supervision.

Children will be in view of staff at all times when appropriate.

Children will be informed of the boundaries and are expected to stay within them.

Children are not to leave the supervised area.

Children misbehaving to such a level that it causes disruption to the programme and others will be removed and their parents/caregivers will be contacted to collect them.

Children who are too unwell to participate will be assessed and the appropriate action taken to assist them. Parents/caregivers will be contacted in the first instance and in most cases will be asked to collect their child/children.

What to bring

Suitable clothing must be worn e.g. outdoor activities require a warm jacket in the winter or a sunhat in the summer.

Children must bring appropriate, healthy food for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, and a labelled drink bottle.

Timing

Full day programmes are from 8.30am – 5pm.

Children must be collected at or before 5pm. If you are more than 10 minutes late to pick up your child/children, a $10 fee will apply per child.

Parking is available in the Museum car park (paid) accessible on the north side Victoria Street entrance of ArtsPost or on Grantham Street (2 and 3 hour limit).
