The Perfect Pitch - A Waikato cricket story

6 February - 29 March 2015

Free entry

New Zealand’s favourite summer sport enters Waikato Museum in this unique exhibition celebrating Waikato cricket. A selection of objects, photographs and artworks help tell the story of early beginnings of the ‘gentleman’s game’ in the region and the evolution of Hamilton’s boutique cricket ground, Seddon Park. Cricket in Hamilton and Waikato has a long and colourful history, tracing back to the late 1800s. That history is explored in this special exhibition, timed to coincide with the city’s involvement in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

Seddon Park is the picturesque venue for three World Cup 2015 fixtures. The Perfect Pitch takes a visual, emotive glimpse at the game and the people who brought national attention to rural cricket through the post war era of the mid-20th century and the development of Northern Districts Cricket Association, the domestic first-class cricket association. Stories of some early international matches and cricket pioneers in Hamilton and Waikato are told alongside cricket-themed fun for the whole family. Evidently it is the supportive sporting environment and application of 21st century science in pitch preparation that has culminated in The Perfect Pitch.
