About the Artist - Caroline Burton
Growing up in the UK, Caroline pursued outlets for her creativity from an early age. The versatility, warmth and variety of textiles has always fascinated her, however working with wool fibre has been her main focus for the past 8 years.
Caroline’s background in engineering has given her an appreciation of the sculptural potential of wool fibre. She finds the process of painting a picture or building a sculpture with unspun merino wool, silk, alpaca and various other fibres fascinating with every new piece that she creates. Because each item is essentially a piece of functional art, no two are the same.
Fibres are painstakingly laid out in layers around a resist, with the design then applied, one tuft or twist at a time. It is felted to create items that are seamless, robust and eye-catching.
