A Woman Enchanted is a personal perspective depicting the twists and turns of domestic violence.
The use of whare tapu wha through weave is symbolic of the woman trying her best to build a safe and loving home unaware that it is twisted at its core due to violence.
The story is not one of pessimism though, it is the struggle of the woman to free herself from the chains of the abuser, to set herself and children free. It is the story of self-reflection, growth and renewal despite the scars.
The use of butterflies and angels is a metaphor for this transition showing the complexity of the world through the fluttering of wings, eventuating in the freedom of the soul. A transformation of the female spirit, despite the darkness.
"My love of art and textiles is paramount to the work I produce - it gives me joy. I gain my inspiration for my art through the world around me. The form and pattern of the natural world, the symmetry and design of the living world never cease to astound, inspire and amaze me.” – Deborah Eastwood.
