An Artful Mix
Artnexus and ArtVenture
26 January 2018 - 26 February 2018
To the artists of Artnexus and ArtVenture, working in their chosen medium is a way of looking at and interpreting the world, and exhibiting is a way of sharing their experience with others. So when exhibiting, neither group is prescriptive about size, medium, subject or style. In this exhibition are landscape, still life and figure paintings – expressive and abstract painting derived both from the world and the imagination – and much more. An artful mix.
ArtVenture's 13 members have been painting and exhibiting together for 11 years.
The Artnexus collective (www.artnexus.co.nz) currently has 17 members and this is their 18th annual exhibition.
Members of ArtVenture and Artnexus have had a long association which goes back to Waikato community classes and workshops. There they discovered creative ways of working and thinking and worked hard at mastering their use of materials. The two groups were formed at different times for the artists to support each other as they struggled to work independently and to show the resulting work.
Artnexus and ArtVenture have previously had separate exhibitions in different spaces in the same gallery at the same time. For this show, members decided that the works of both groups would be combined to fill all three galleries at ArtsPost. This gave more choice when hanging such diverse and energetic works - creating An Artful Mix!
