‘I enjoy the simple and expressive qualities of line, attempting to reproduce the immediacy and intimacy of working from life. When I am consistent and committed in my drawing and painting practice, I find it is a process in which I feel fully and deeply alive and at play.
Most of the time I draw and paint people: friends, strangers, models, other artists and myself. I ask, “how we see ourselves and each other?” What is it like to look at a body and how does it feel to be inside that body?
People features drawings and paintings taking these questions both playfully and seriously.
I was born in Norfolk in 1973, and emigrated to New Zealand 12 years ago. I won the New Zealand Portrait Gallery’s Adam Portraiture Award in 2010, and have held regular solo and group exhibitions in New Zealand since.’
